We will be serving our first snack to the Children’s School on Friday, Nov. 1st at 10:00 in the morning. We have had several lessons with Dave Siopack, our CFO. Dave has taught us about budget and marketing. The class will be cooking pumpkin muffins for the first sale. We made posters and will be visiting other classrooms to spread the word about our business.
Why are we selling snacks? The class is learning about hunger in America. We know that hunger has its roots in poverty and that there are many dimensions to the problem including poor health, and less ability to do well in school. Eating healthy foods is expensive and some families need help. Our profits will go toward our work with the Alameda County Community Food Bank. Last year, the H.E.P. raised over $300 that we could donate to the food bank. We also learned a lot about food, food justice, and nutrition.
